We often like to go to the main Park of Adapazari. Kent park is a lovely park with lots of things for the kids to do, nice walks and places to sit and drink tea.
One very noticeable part of the Park is the large Working Çark Water Wheel. Its a bit of an odd thing to have in a Park but when you read the history you gain some understanding of why its there.
Next to the Park is the river Çark which runs through the city from Sapanca Lake to the Black Sea. During 1581 a Water Wheel was built to provide fresh water to the City. The original Wheel worked until 1585.
In 1724 a new Wheel was constructed and was donated by Devoğlu Mustafa, as the city grew the Wheel became inadequate to provide enough water and again the Wheel was redesigned in order to provide enough water. The Wheel was in use up until 1955.
The Sakarya Municipality decided to preserve the history of the Wheel and the city by ordering the Wheel to be reconstructed using a postcard from 1901.
Together the water company ADASU and the Sakarya University rebuilt the wheel using the original specifications and methods. And today you can see this Working Water Wheel standing next to the Çark River in Kent Park.
